Outback Adventure Media

The very first video Tony Pizzata made was on VHS video tape (a thing of the past)  back in 1990. It was made after his second hunt to New Zealand’s high country for Himalayan Tahr and was entitled “Tahr In The Bluffs”.   Later, he released a second video entitled “Tell Them I’m Hunting” and between 1990 and 2001 he released several other titles including “You’ll Find Me In The Hills”, “Calling Em’ In” and “Hunting New Zealand’s Southern Alps”.

Video editing, however, didn’t come cheap or easy and after spending literally tens of  thousands of dollars on each title simply having an editing house produce the goods, he decided he’d  learn to edit video on computer and produce a video master, ready for printing himself.  This signalled the start of Outback Adventure Media and since then many new titles have been produced by him on DVD. Through Outback Adventure Media, Tony is committed to bringing you the best in hunting and the great outdoors both here in Australia as well as many other parts of the world.

Tony Pizzata

Tony has been hunting for more than 40 years and started his association with  Australasian Sporting Shooter Magazine back in 1988. However, it wasn’t until February, 1991 that he began working for the publication on a full time basis. “It all started when I happened to be in the office dropping an article off to the editor for insertion to the magazine,  when I was told there was a job vacancy coming up for an advertising manager. Eager for an interview, I made an appointment and the rest is history.” Tony is now the National Sales Manager and Field Editor for the magazine which is now in it’s 50th year.  During the past 25 years he has had the opportunity to hunt the South Pacific extensively and also hunt in many other parts of the world.

“For many years, my favourite destination was New Zealand’s South Island, as I love the alpine hunting and  in particular Chamois and Tahr hunting.  To date I’ve made 57 hunting trips to the South Island of New Zealand, however, these day’s I tend to just take my rifle for the walk and shoot lots of photos and video over there.

My first trip to Canada in 1995 for black bear in Alberta’s North, soon sparked a passion for North America and other destinations like New Mexico and Arizona.  Since then I have made several trips for Whitetail, Mule deer, Pronghorn antelope, moose, and lots of other critters”.

My favourite destinations back home here in Australia is Cape York in Queensland’s North, bustin’ big boars and The Northern Territory in Australia’s “Top End” which is one of Australia’s last frontiers and also the home of  mean scrub bulls and heavy horned buffalo. The pig hunting and barramundi fishing is also excellent there.

My hunting team amongst others and best buddies are my son Michael, Nephew Michael and Son-In Law Frank. The four of us hunt regularly together, I believe it’s what keeps us so “tight knit” and a close family. I’m sure I speak for all four when I say Hunting and the outdoors is in our blood, an instinct, an obsession and what I am thankful for that has now spread past me and through to the younger members of my immediate family.  For it’s out there around a camp fire or atop a hill or mountain we get the chance to strengthen that family bond, to talk and communicate with each other, without the distractions of a busy city life.  Remember, to take the opportunity to show a youngster the beauty of our great outdoors and the age old tradition of hunting. They are our future.
